Why is my API key suspended?

Your Akismet API key could get suspended for several reasons:

You need to select a plan

You need an Akismet plan in order to use Akismet on your site. If you signed up for an account but didn’t select a plan, your key may show as being suspended. You can resolve that by selecting a plan for your site.

You need a commercial plan

The Akismet Personal Plan is only for use on personal, non‑commercial sites. If your site is in any way related to a for‑profit business or educational organization, then it is considered commercial. If we find that a Personal plan is in use on a commercial site, we will ask you to upgrade to a commercial plan. Failure to do so will result in the suspension of your API key until the plan is upgraded.

You just need to wait

If your key was suspended for one of the reasons above, and you have resolved the issue by either selecting a plan or upgrading to a commercial plan, it may take up to 24 hours before the suspended message disappears. If you can’t wait that long, deactivating and reactivating the Akismet plugin should also clear the message.
