Akismet plugin 2.5.2 for WordPress

Today we’ve released another update for the Akismet plugin for WordPress, version 2.5.2. Check the Plugins tab of your wp‑admin dashboard and follow the instructions to auto‑update. If you don’t use the WordPress auto update feature, you can manually download the zip package from the Akismet plugin page on WordPress.org.

Like the previous 2.5.x versions of this plugin, it requires WordPress 3.0 or higher. If you haven’t upgraded to WordPress 3.0 (version 3.0.4 is the most recent) now is the time to take a look. WordPress 3.1 is at release candidate 2 so expect to see WordPress 3.1 coming out in the near feature.

Version 2.5.2 of the Akismet WordPress plugin includes some minor fixes and improvments:

  • Increases the HTTP request timeout
  • Fixed a typo in one of the function names
  • Increases the height on the Akismet stats page to avoid double scroll bars
  • Adjusts the style of author approved count and comment author name
  • Specifically check for super admins when doing a user role look up on multisite installs

All of these improvements are also live on all WordPress.com hosted sites.

The Akismet plugin for WordPress isn’t the only thing we’ve been working on recently. We have a treat for Akismet users that will go live next week.

What is it you ask? I’ll give you a hint. It is an update to a feature that has stayed more or less the same since late 2008. I think you’ll really like it. Now, no more hints, you’ll just have to wait until next week when it goes live :‑)

  3. QUESTION + WORRY :

Recently I have noticed the Dashboard calling for Updates.
After clicking on the Update Automatically list of these I am now getting a STRANGE Notice calling for me to
fill in the most private log ons of my Host and FTP or FSTP details — and I think it’s a HACKER !! Also the screen has NO HTTPS Secure Function toggled ON, so anyone could track my details I put in.
My other sites don’t all call for these details in Updating, so…
    What’s the deal with WordPress?????
    THanks,
    V.

  4. Communication problem for me on WP fò3.0.4 and 2.51 or 2.5.2:
Akismet ha identificato un problema. A server or network problem prevented Akismet from checking 14 comments. They have been temporarily held for moderation and will be automatically re-checked in 1 minuto.

Sounds like you server is had a problem reaching akismet.com.

  5. This version seems to be a significant step backwards on spam detection. I’m getting about 20 spams per hour held for approval or actually approved now whereas I’d get about that many per week previously. What gives? I think I’ll go back to a previous version.

    1. Drop us a note at akismet.com/contact/ with the what ever details you can pull together (error logs, comment details, etc.) and we can take a look.

  6. I am having a problem with emails sent to me saying that clearly spam comments are being held pending approval, even though they’ve actually been marked as spam. This has been going on for a few months.

    1. If you are still seeing this with version 2.5.2 gather up the details and send it to us via akismet.com/contact/

  8. But i just wondering why it loads the page in an iframe. It would be very nice if it were native. Now there is too much white in below stats area.

    1. So that we can easily update the page without having to ship out a new version of the Akismet plugin.
